- The example of design criteria for our 5,300L Fermentors / VC tanks:
- • No penetrations are above the height of the door:
- o A common frustration with VC tanks is when thermowells are placed halfway up the tank wall limiting the minimum volume which can be stored in the tank.
- • The racking valve and bottom valve are offset:
- o This is to encourage flow around the tank when mixing valve to valve
- • Racking Arm
- o The tanks pictured are optioned with a racking arm. Due to the door position of a fermenter racking needs to be done from over the top. The racking arm and a sight glass make racking more user friendly.
- • 3” Bottom valve sump offset to the door
- o Whilst totally normal on larger storage tanks on 3” valves on small VC tanks are not found. When draining a ferment this will clearly be an advantage. It could also allow filling of must via the bottom valve
- o When used to store clean wine all wine should be able to be drained from the valve and avoid the annoying last bucket having to be drained out the door.
- • Large surface area cooling plate in the critical zone
- o Versatility of volumes which can be warmed and cooled.
- • High clearance to the crane arm
- o Approximately 1m to the crane arm allowing the lid to be hoisted well clear of the tank when working red ferments
